Electroformed catheter tip-forming dies, microfluidic molds, bellows and bellows assemblies, miniature optical housings, and various other 2D and 3D electroforms were on display in NiCoForm's booth 1663. Our knowledgeable and friendly engineers, Joe Jachlewski and John Contino were on hand to explain how electroformed items are made and their advantages over conventional machined components.

At the Medical Design and Manufacturing Exhibition (MD&M West 2005), in which NiCoForm participated for the first time, we exhibited electroformed catheter tipping dies, bellows, nano- and microfluidic molds and optical devices. August 2004 A joint R&D effort of NiCoForm, Inc. and Advanced Optical Systems (Huntsville, AL), aimed at producing precision electroformed mirrors and named FAAME, is drawing to a successful completion in December 2004. In this project, diamond machined mandrels were used to electroform three generations of replicas with optical precision of less than 3 wavelengths in the visible light. From a single master we produced five first generation, ten second and twelve third generation 2" OD mirror replicas. In another series of tests we determined that a master diamond machined in electroless nickel can withstand over 25 replication cycles without noticeable deterioration of its surface finish and geometry. These results were presented in August 2004 at the Space Optics Manufacturing Technology Center's Tech Days 2004 in Huntsville, AL. Click to view the talk brief. They were also described in the Missile Defense Agency's Spring 2005 newsletter (click here to view article).
October 2003 In conjunction with Cornell University's Alliance for Nanobiotechnology, NiCoForm presented a paper entitled: NiColoy®: A versatile electroforming process for bio-sensor fabrication by embossing, at the Sensors 2003 Technical Conference in Toronto Canada.
May 2003 A poster presentation 'Electroforming of Optical Tooling in High-Strength Ni-Co Alloy' was presented by Berl Stein of NiCoForm at Optifab 2003 in Rochester, NY.
May 9 2002 A poster presentation, 'Electroforming of Optical Tooling in High-Strength Ni-Co Alloy', (paper # CA05-502) was presented on May 9, 2002 at OPTO-Canada in Ottawa. It covered applications of NiColoy® in optics and included samples of electroforms produced for various projects. To download a summary of the presentation in PDF format, please click here.
April 26 2001 NiCoForm's Berl Stein makes a presentation, "Electroforming of Optical Tooling in High-Strength Ni-Co Alloy," at an electroforming symposium co-sponsored by the Nickel Development Institute and the Institute of Metal Finishing in Birmingham, England.
